Money and Healing Your Spending Habits
You’ve probably heard all the sayings by now, some good, some completely based in anxious energy.
Money is the root of all evil.
Money doesn’t grow on trees.
Money is the answer to my prayers.
Maybe if I win the lottery.
Money has quite a lot attached to it. Most times we adopt money beliefs and spending habits based on how we grew up. Whether you realize it or not, you have certain beliefs around this resource that may be running the show in your life, determining how you act, and most importantly, how you feel on a day-to-day basis.
In reality, money is simply a resource, an energy that we assign positives and negatives to. When you stop and think, is money something that causes you a great deal of stress and anxiety, no matter what your bank account says? Or is it something that you trust the flow of? Do you feel the urge to spend it the moment you receive it? Or do you have the need to save every dollar, scared to spend any of it? Noticing your money patterns can help you get to the root of anxiety and blockages in your life. Dedicating time to journaling on this can help you truly unpack your belief systems, helping you realize what belongs to you and what has merely been passed down to you from family members. When you start to heal your relationship with money, understanding that we live in an abundant universe, despite what you have been told, despite the phrases thrown your way, more and more of it will start to flow into your life.
When you think about winning the lottery – it feels like a dream come true, right? But have you truly stopped to think about it? What would you actually do with that amount of money? Would you spend it all right away? Would you spend it on others, hoping they’ll still be there when it runs out? Would you be okay with such a rapid change in your lifestyle? Sitting with this idea can help you further work through your money beliefs. Winning the lottery would be an incredible, helpful thing! But it may cause more stress and anxiety if you haven’t healed the underlying beliefs around it.
This is all comes back to my main point I want to stress - money should not control you. It doesn’t determine who you are as a person and it does not reflect the amount of inner work you’ve done on yourself. It does NOT determine your value as a human on this earth. You can absolutely have a lot of it. Yes. And I hope that you are able to live a comfortable, joyful life, thriving in all areas. Having more money can help you do a lot of good in this world, this I believe. But first, you must take a look at your patterns, deconstruct all the old narratives around it, so you can see it for what it is, an energy exchange, one that can work in your favour.
You must always value others for who they are as a person, and not the price tag on their car. Money is a tool and the more you heal, the more all of this will ring true for you.
I hope this reminder serves you well – that money only holds the power you assign it, that it should never control you, that your money patterns are doorways in to heal on an even deeper level.
